This is a little add-on that has saved me more than once.
If I'm playing a gig that's a bit more high pressure than usual, I'll attach my drum key/stretchy key ring belt clip on my snare in the 6 o' clock position. Although I usually keep an unattached drum key in the 2 o' clock position on my snare, I may forget to put it there or drop it during a quick fix.
Between pressing buttons, turning pages, & watching for cues, I don't want to be searching for a drum key should I need it. The coil stretches far enough to reach every piece of gear and doesn't scratch the drum because it's plastic... and it glows in the dark.
Once I remember making an adjustment between songs when all of a sudden the guitarist starting playing his 2-count intro. (He was caught up int he moment!) I had an 8th note to double crash on 1 so I basically threw the key out of my way to get to the sticks. It quickly snapped back into place and was ready to be used again.
You can find the stretchy key ring/belt clips at multiple online outlets and they're really affordable. The original batch I purchased have lasted since the early 2000's and I've even given a few away to 'inquiring' drummers at the show.
