So what the heck is a COOP3RDRUMM3R?
He's YouTube drumming sensation Casey Cooper (aka COOP3RDRUMM3R) and he's recently joined the Pearl Artist roster.
He first came to our attention through Project 108 as him submission was a favorite and I chose it to be the lead in after Todd Sucherman's submission. Casey performed on an ELX Export Series kit like he's done many times on his YouTube Channel. The number of views that his channel has accumulated is staggering and when we were putting together our plan for the new EXX Export Series... he would definitely be a part. We invited him to Pearl Headquarters in Nashville to film some videos of him paying the EXX kit and conduct an interview about his drumming life. It went very smoothly as he was really prepared and you can see the results here:
Having such an immense following, he's certainly going to have his share of nay-sayers. Casey shared a lot of the negative comments he receives and how he uses them to fuel his already impulsive drive to succeed. That's a rare stance to have and maintain as we can all recall an instance where someone tried to tear us down... now imagine it x1000 and they're all anonymous. We had a great conversation over dinner how he begin drumming, created his YouTube Channel, the philosophy behind it, and how his plans to grow as an artist.
One of the negative comments he receives a lot is that he must have been given everything by his 'rich' parents as he has a stellar collection of gear. FALSE. I heard firsthand how he's worked very hard to personally gather all of the drums, video, and audio gear he uses to create his drumming videos. Not only does he work a job like you and me but he also edits all of the videos himself. That's a lot of hats to wear... financial backer, drummer, video editor, set designer, promoter, web guy, manager, and writer.
It's really inspiring to see a young drummer have so much passion for his instrument and also finding a way to make his own way in the drumming world through hard work and perseverance.
